Get F*cked for Fitz!

November 9th, 2011

This is THE most EPIC social of the year so even if you don’t come to any socials, come to this one. It is for a good cause as it is a fundraising social to send club members to attend safety courses to prevent accidents and mishaps. It is a tribute to Jon Fitzsimmons, a former club member who drowned while paddling the river Landquart in the Alps whilst carrying out some warm-up runs for a round-the-world paddling trip he was planning. He had just graduated from Bristol, having been an active, committed member of the canoe club since his first year.

There’s always a great turn out, with lots of old boys and other university clubs attending. There will be a raffle, drink deals, a magician and a DJ! It’ll be an amazing evening raising money for a fantastic cause and remembering a brilliant club member.

Come and buy the tickets for only £5 from the committee after tomorrow’s pool session.

A reminder of the date and location:

When: 8pm, Friday the 18th of November

Beginners Weekend

November 2nd, 2011

As you all should know, we went down to Dartmoor and Exeter on Saturday and Sunday and had an awesome weekend paddling under the sun. The rivers were exciting for beginners without being heart-stopping and scary but it was also fun for the other more experience paddlers too. In the evening, there were more fun and games, fueled by alcohol of course. We had also held court during which I think it is worth mentioning that Rich our captain was sentenced to wearing a mankini. Yes, Borat style, lime green mankini.

All in all it was an epic weekend! We thank all the leaders, drivers and everyone who helped out!

First pool session and a few dates

October 10th, 2011

Hello all, welcome (back) to a new academic year. Here are a few main events that are going to take place very soon:

Thursday 13th Oct, 6.45 p.m.: Free taster session / swim test
Sat & Sun 15th & 16th Oct: Polzeath surf trip and Dolphins and Marmots Polo
Sun 23th Oct: Docks Day
Sat & Sun 29th & 30th Oct: Beginners weekend

During the free taster session, there will be a swim test in the beginning but there is nothing to worry about. All you have to do is swim 2 lengths. After that you will get to hop into boats and play around in them. Then we will adjourn to somewhere drier and get to know everyone else a little better.

See you soon!

Dolphins Win Welsh International Open Canoe Polo Challenge

August 11th, 2011

The weekend of 8th & 9th August hosted the annual Welsh International Open Canoe Polo Challenge.

Undefeated throughout the 7 match weekend, the chainsaw dolphins left Cardiff Bay as 2011 Champions of Division 3, having seen off all comers. The boys received a fine Welsh slate trophy, adding to the club’s growing collection, and a selection of coasters for in reward for all their efforts in the sunshine and showers of a fun filled weekend.

The Voodoo Vixens were also there in fine style due to the addition of the 100% score rate of the BEAR and flouishes to play contributed by Master Cullen. They played some real nail biting games which resulted in some narrow loses and some hairy draws as well as some well deserved wins. The 2nd day didn’t see the Vixens perform too well, I blame UWE coming back at 3am and threatening to bounce off the tents, but they finished with a really close match and I think managed to keep the guys entertained during our games all weekend…must mean we’re getting better girls….or they just like seeing Mike’s spinny shots.
